Tri-Wing and Phillips Screwdrivers
Note: We recommend only doing this mod if you have experience with soldering.
STEP 1: Remove the 6 tri-wing screws with a Y2 tri-wing screwdriver. DO NOT THROW AWAY SCREWS.

STEP 2: Remove the backplate, and you will see 2-3 screws holding down the motherboard. With a 00 Phillips screwdriver, remove them and put them to the side.
NOTE: You should have 6 long screws and 2-3 short ones.

STEP 3: Now you will remove the motherboard from the shell and screen. GENTLY lift the tabs on the top of the ribbon connector up. You can do this with the tip of your screwdriver or your finger. Make sure not to push too hard, or it can break.

STEP 4: Lift up the ribbon and remove it from the adapter. You can remove the motherboard from the system.

Note: You can use flux to help the solder adhere to any of the points on the board and the tactile switches, but make sure you clean up with a Q-tip and alcohol to remove residue.
Step 5: Pre-solder points: 32, P01, P02, P00, P03, P11, P10, and BT-. The solder points are circled in the picture. An example of pre-soldered points is in the picture below.

Step 6: Line up the D-pad tactile switch with the points 32, P00, P01, P02, P03. We recommend using some Kapton tape to temporarily line it up. Make sure to remove the tape before soldering near it. Solder the points together with another bead of solder above.
.
Note: If you are having issues with one button not working. Most likely, the point is not fully soldered to the board.
Step 7: Redo the same step-up with the A&B buttons. Pre-solder points: P11, P10, and BT-

Step 8: Solder first point BT- at the bottom of the tactile switch pad, it may be a tight fit, and soldering that point first will help with aligning the rest of the pad with points P10 and P11
.
Step 9: Make sure to clean off any flux residue with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. And you can place the button and specialty button pads on the console.
STEP 10: Plug the display ribbon into the GBC motherboard. And push the side tabs down to secure the ribbon into the port.

STEP 11: Screw in the 2-3 Phillips screws back in and place the side power switch. Make sure the screws are not too tight.

NOTE: IF you are having issues with the feel of the buttons, it may be that the screws are too tight. Loosen the screws or remove one of them to allow room.
STEP 13: Test the system. Always test your system before you close it. Any issues that arise can be fixed now.

STEP 14: To close the system, screw in the 6 Tri-wing screws and install the glass lens. Make sure not to tighten the screws too tightly to avoid anything breaking or warping the shell.
