GameBoy Color AMOLED LCD Installation Guide
STEP 1: Remove the 6 tri-wing screws with a Y2 tri-wing screwdriver.
DO NOT THROW AWAY SCREWS.
STEP 2: Remove the backplate and you will see 2-3 screws holding down the motherboard. With a 00 Phillips screwdriver remove them and put them to the side.
STEP 3: Now you will remove the motherboard from the shell and screen. GENTLY lift the tabs on the top of the ribbon connector up. You can do this with the tip of your screwdriver or your finger. Make sure not to push too hard or it can break.
STEP 4: Lift up the ribbon and remove it from the adapter. You can remove the motherboard from the system. This is the only part you will need from the original GBC.
STEP 5: Remove the cover over the adhesive on the LCD.
STEP 6: Place the LCD in the shell, sliding in the bottom part first, then inserting the rest of the LCD in the shell.
STEP 7: Place the PCB board on the back of the LCD. The ribbon on the LCD goes through the hole on the PCB board and lines up with the port on the PCB board.
STEP 8: Push down the ribbon from the LCD into the ribbon port on the PCB board. You should feel it ‘click in’. Do not attempt to push it too hard since it may cause the pins to bend. Many times when the LCD is not working it is because there is an issue with this connection.
STEP 9: Using 1 soldering wire (You may get extra) solder it onto the PCB board where it says ‘BAT’.
STEP 10: (OPTIONAL) Use the heat-resistant tape to tape the PCB board to the shell. This may not be necessary but we recommend it, to avoid any issues especially if you are using a shell from another vendor. Sometimes the pressure from the PCB board pushing into the LCD can cause problems with the LCD itself.
STEP 11: Place the buttons and pads into the shell, make sure the buttons do not have extra plastic from the molding process, as it can cause issues with button input.
STEP 12: Place the motherboard onto the shell and plug in the big ribbon onto the motherboard. Make sure it is fully inserted and then push down the tabs on the side. Make sure the tabs are fully pushed down on both sides, this secures the LCD ribbon into place.
STEP 13: Flip up the motherboard and solder the wire from ’BAT’ to the BT+ point on the motherboard. You may also solder it to the power switch, but we recommend this point as there is less risk of damaging the power switch.
STEP 14: Place the board back down on the shell and make sure the red wire does not go through any screw holes, if you have any more heat-resistant tape, use that to tape down the red wire. Then screw in the 3 short screws to hold the motherboard to the shell. We recommend using the flat head screws in the kit than the original round head screws since the rounder ones may create a slight bump in the battery compartment.
STEP 15: Place the IR cover and the power switch in the shell.
STEP 16: Place the back cover on the system and first test the system before you finish closing it. Make sure the touchscreen function works well, when you first start the system up, the GameBoy Color logo will be turned off. Using the touchscreen to turn on the logo. Check the end of the tutorial for instructions on how to use the OSD menu.
STEP 16: After testing, place the back cover and screw in the last 6 long screws to attach the back cover. Test the system again to make sure everything is fully functional.
